The Honorable Mark R. Warner, Governor of Virginia will provide the Keynote Address on Wednesday, May 12. Since his inauguration in January 2002, Governor Warner has taken a business-like, bipartisan approach in reforming government services and spending. His administration has been marked by a commitment to restore Virginia's fiscal integrity and build the foundation for a stronger economy, improved education, and a better quality of life for all Virginians. Prior to entering public office, Governor Warner had a successful business career in venture capital, funding innovative ideas and creating jobs. He helped found the Virginia Health Care Foundation, providing health care to more than 476,000 underserved Virginians; TechRiders, teaching basic computer skills to persons who are not exposed to computers in their schools or homes; and the Virginia High-Tech Partnership, helping students from Virginia's five (5) Historically Black Colleges and Universities pursue technology careers through summer internships and a job placement program.
The Honorable Ernest J. Istook, Jr., Member of Congress Thursday, May 13 · 1pm
The Honorable Ernest J. Istook, Jr., Member of Congress, Fifth District-Oklahoma will provide the Keynote Address on Thursday, May 13, where he is expected to speak on two issues near and dear to civil engineers and the construction industry - transportation funding and infrastructure security. The congressman is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, currently serving on three subcommittees, Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education; District of Columbia – which he chaired from 1999 to 2000; and Transportation & Treasury – which he has chaired since 2001. The Transportation & Treasury Appropriations Subcommittee provides oversight and funding for the Treasury, including the Internal Revenue Service, the White House and other key government agencies, and the nation's transportation system. This past year, Congressman Istook was appointed to the Select Committee on Homeland Security, where he serves on the Infrastructure and Border Security subcommittee.
