Lester M. Hunkele, III, P.E., C.C.M., C.P.E.
Senior Vice President, DMJM Management



With over thirty years of planning, programming, budgeting, design, construction management, O&M, real estate and contracting experience, Mr. Hunkele specializes in leading large organizations and management teams for both government and private sector projects and programs. Hallmarks of his leadership are well-run organizations, tight fiscal controls, attention to detail, best use of available resources, and a cooperative team spirit.

His recent awards include the Office of the Secretary of Defense's Pentagon Reservation Boundary Award in 2001 for his work as the DMJM-led joint venture program manager for the Pentagon Renovation before and after the September 11 attack on the Pentagon, and a Certificate of Appreciation from FEMA and the State of New York in 2002 for assistance in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack. The Construction Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers selected Mr. Hunkele to receive its eighth Roebling Award, honoring him for his outstanding contributions in construction engineering in 2003.

His notable assignments include his current position as Senior Vice President of DMJM Management; Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation where he took over leadership of the design and construction of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center; Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs where he headed the full range of facilities functions for all VA facilities; and the assistant head of worldwide Marine Corps facilities.

Mr. Hunkele holds an engineering degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and an MSCE in Construction Management from Purdue University. He is also a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He held an unlimited warrant for construction contracting in GSA, has been agency head of contract activity, and has been the authority having jurisdiction for life safety issues.

In the military he held several engineering and construction positions, was in the U.S. Army Special Forces in Thailand, and was Airborne and Ranger qualified.
