ASCE-CI Constructability Case Study Form
Constructability is the integration of construction knowledge and experience in the planning, design, procurement, and construction phases of projects consistent with overall project objectives.

Purpose: To provide a forum for the communication and discussion of topics related to the constructability of civil engineering projects; advance the engineering and construction industry's knowledge and state of practice of constructability; and act as an industry resource for constructability information, education, and research.

Previous efforts undertaken by the Constructability Committee have described the state-of-practice in the area of constructability and created a catalog of constructability references. These resources are important for owners or developers considering constructability reviews. The committee is currently extending previous efforts to establish an on-going dialog between professional practitioners, service providers, academics, and students to capture and re-use constructability knowledge using case studies.  Working to build a constructability resource library, the committee has developed a case study format to collect and publish data from construction engineering experiences from the field.  The case study form may be found on the Constructability Committee Working Documents site.  We encourage professionals using constructability techniques on a project to provide case study submissions that will be shared in a non-identifying manner with all who visit the CI Constructability website.
  • Practitioner members are asked to busmit a minimum of two case-studies per year.
  • Academic members are asked to provide technical leadership to assist case-study submission, organizing conference sessions, and related topics.
  • Student members are asked to help in mapping case studies into the Industry Foundation Class (IFC) Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Your interest and participation is all that is required to join the committee.  Please review our committee plan, meeting minutes, and other documents to see where you might best contribute.  For more information, or to join the committee, please contact Erin Santiago, Construction Institute Coordinator at esantiago@asce.org.
